All media is owned by a company or a corporation of some sort. This raises some issues. Major companies dominating the industry and Piracy are just a couple.
First off, the industry is primarily ran by bigger companies such as Warner Bros and DreamWorks. These companies and a couple others are almost the only ones that release big movies. This brings in far more money than anyone else. Film is dominated by the same major companies. Piracy is a major problem with media ownership. Basically, piracy is distributing media without permission from the owner. Piracy is illegal. If someone downloads a movie and sends it around without the permission of the owner, it is piracy and they could see a harsh punishment. Piracy is very easy and inexpensive, making it far more common as the years go on. Some people even record new films with a camera in movie theaters. Piracy is a growing issue, and rapidly, but why is it so important? Piracy has a negative impact on all of the workers in their respective industries. Piracy leads to less money coming in, which leads to less money for software, production, etc. It can be so serious that people may have struggles supporting themselves. Even a decade ago, 59 billion dollars worth of software was stolen! There is a gigantic loss in income with piracy. Overall, Large Corporations and Piracy are some issues raised by Media Ownership.
