The ongoing growth of new media technologies is very significant to media outlets and audiences. In order to find new ways to sell their brand, the film industry is continually evolving and adapting. For example, companies have launched an online streaming platform in recent years, which offers the audience the option of purchasing the film and streaming or uploading the film directly to their home computer, or even to their smartphone or tablet. This has saved millions of distributors because they can only submit a single file instead of sourcing packaging materials for a huge fee, and going to the manufacturing stage of making the actual media disk computer and still release and sell their product to the same number of individuals as they would release a physical Digital Disk. This is the same for new releases of cinema as distributors do not need to process a film reel now, they only send the production file to another computer. This also eliminates the distribution distance cap as a dozen film reels would have been exchanged and posted around the country in the past. An internet connection and a computer are now all they need to obtain a new release. This supports the view that "old" media such as DVDs are in decline as the major drive for new viewing platforms is increasingly reducing the need for old media.
